2014 mixed tape

December 31, 2014

Wallowing: A term my friends and I coined this past Coachella, when we were sitting poolside when I popped the question: “Do you guys ever immerse yourself in really sad music, you know, just to wallow?” It became our running joke the rest of the year, with text message logs listing out our favorite songs to get sad to, and to describe those nights when we sit at home and contemplate life. Sometimes with a little help from Bon Iver, sometimes it was more upbeat with Shira. I wouldn’t really consider these tracks so depressing as they would rank in the top 10 list of sad songs, but they are some of my favorite 2014 releases that gave me the shivers, especially Alt-J’s “Lovely Day”, which prompted my first spiritual experience from a live performance.
