what to pack for tulum

February 16, 2017

I’m not one to give travel advice until I truly know the in’s and out’s of my destination – that’s why I started Bon Weekender, as a place to share the neighborhoods and cities that I call second or third homes due to my frequency of travel there and a certain local familiarity. My first trip to Tulum was over 6 years ago, and since then I’ve been making it a priority to return ever since. Although it’s developing rapidly, it still maintains a certain kind of magic just from the unique Yucatán cuisine and the never disappointing sunsets. To close my fifth trip to this magical beach town, I decided to list 5 things I always make sure to pack into my suitcase.

Alpaca Cardigan – In the rare occasion that the temperatures drops below 70 degrees, the best way to combat the cool breeze is with a throw over cardigan

Statement Sunglasses – A good statement pair of sunglasses is all you need as an accessory for this stylish but effortlessly pared down beach town.

Coqui Coqui Perfume – The namesake hotel was one of the first concept boutique stays on the strip of sand that made Tulum the destination it is now. Although the hotel is now closed, there’s no other brand that captures the spirit and scent of the Yucatán than Coqui Coqui.

She Made Me Swimsuits – Tulum is a holiday destination where old traditions are celebrated with a new approach, and She Made Me’s delicately crocheted swimsuits are akin to that sentiment. The classic crochet in gorgeous, dusted tones blend seamlessly with the Riviera Maya landscapes.

Beach Basket – There’s no better material to tote along in the beach than a straw basket, it’s sturdy, durable and dries easily in the sun and is resistant to damage or shape-shifting from heavy usage.
