journy to barcelona

January 27, 2016

If my first trip of the year is any indication of how I’ll be spending the months ahead, it’s that I’m destined to luxuriate over great food with even better company throughout the year. My first flight was kicked off with a trip to Barcelona with Journy, a new site that creates itineraries designed for the modern traveler. Believe me when I say, this is the real deal. As someone who thrives on scouting new places to eat, shop and see in an unfamiliar city, taking the backseat and entrusting a guide was at first a difficult concept to grasp, but as we moved from hotel, shop to restaurant, I found that every stop on the itinerary was more special than the last.  There’s superb attention to detail on our tailor-made guides. After all, the people who made them are a well-travelled panel of experts.

margot house barcelona

First, we checked into Margot House Barcelona, a 9-bedroom boutique hotel inspired by Wes Anderson’s Margot Tenenbaum. The hotel’s interior eluded California-coastal and the most memorable feature to note is the self-service style kitchen and library.

Casa Batlló Barcelona

Then there’s the location of the hotel, if there’s one convenience to highlight about Margot House, it is its view of Gaudi’s Casa Batlló, conveniently located across the street.

Bar Mut Tapas Barcelona

For an afternoon merienda drop by Bar Mut, a cozy Spanish-style bistro that serves classic tapas.

Mies van der Rohe, Pavillion, Fundacio Mies
For those architecturally inclined, take a moment to meander through El Pabellon, a high gloss pavillion designed by Mies van der Rohe.

The colors of La Boqueria.

Tucked inside the Boqueria is El Quim, devoured for its seasoned, savory dishes.

Then there was dinner at Disfrutar, a gastronomic experience that has convinced me that anything, with the right chef, can be edible.Tickets Barcelona Michelin Star Restaurant
Last but not least, a trip to Barcelona wouldn’t be complete without experiencing the tasting menu at Tickets. The dishes were daring, innovative, but more importantly, delicious. It’s a carnival for the taste buds, if you will.
